State bracket: Trojans earn three seed

FORT DODGE - The 2020 state softball brackets are set and ready to go for the five tournaments that will take place next week. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union released the Class 4A and 5A brackets on Tuesday night, shortly after Fairfield and the rest of the big schools punched their tickets.
The third-ranked Trojans (24-1), who ran away late from No. 12 Burlington on Tuesday night for a 7-2 win in the Region 7 final. They'll take on No. 6 Dallas Center-Grimes on Monday evening.
DC-G (19-9) is currently ranked No. 8 in Class 4A. The Mustangs walked off No. 13 Ballard 6-5 in the Region 2 final to earn their eighth state tournament banner in the last 10 years.
The Fairfield-Ballard game will be the fourth Class 4A quarterfinal to begin. It will be on Veterans' Diamond, and there will likely be three other games going on at the same time when the game hits first pitch.
The winner of that game will go on to play on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., against second-seeded West Delaware or seventh-seeded Winterset.
West Delaware, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, defeated Washington 8-2 in the Region 6 final. Winterset, ranked No. 10, blasted Norwalk 10-1 in the Region 3 final.
Carlisle, the top-ranked and top-seeded team in Class 4A, will take on unranked LeMars in the first Class 4A game of the day, at 3 p.m. Carlisle rolled No. 14 Harlan 12-0, in three innings, in the Region 4 championship. LeMars upset No. 9 Sergeant Bluff-Luton, 4-1, in the Region 1 championship.
North Scott and Charles City will play in the four-five game. North Scott, ranked fifth in the class, will represent the No. 4 seed, and Charles City, the seventh-ranked team in the class, gets the No. 5 seed.
North Scott plastered No. 15 Western Dubuque, 10-0, in the Region 8 final. Charles City won the Region 5 championship in a shootout, beating Mason City 10-6.
the Class 4A state championship game will take place on Thursday, July 30, at 7:30 p.m.
