State football wraps up in Cedar Falls
Bishop Garrigan pulls off 8-Player championship after knocking off WMU

CEDAR FALLS - The 2023 Iowa high school football season officially finished up at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls last week, as championship games took place on Thursday and Friday.
One week after scoring a comeback win over Winfield-Mount Union in the Class 8-Player semifinals, Bishop Garrigan outlasted Bedford 39-30 in the state championship on Thursday morning. Bishop Garrigan was the only unranked squad in the finals.
In the Class A championship, West Hancock finished off a comeback win over Woodbury Central by scoring a game-winning touchdown in the final minute of the game.
In Class 1A, Grundy Center finished off an unbeaten season by blowing out MFL MarMac 42-0. Following that game, Lewis Central ran away from Western Dubuque 40-21.
Friday’s opener was an exciting Class 2A battle between Van Meter and Central Lyon/George-Little Rock. Van Meter stormed back in the fourth to win 24-21.
In Class 3A, Williamsburg stayed red-hot with a 20-0 shutout win over Bishop Heelan. Southeast Polk finished the day off with a 49-21 win over Ankeny in the Class 5A championship.
