WATERLOO — Both Poojita Mukadam and Natalie Steele were in action at the Class 1A state singles tournament in Waterloo last week. Neither could bring home the cold, but Steele did finish in the Top-8.
Steele went 2-3 in the tournament, beating out Pella’s Abby Hietrbink in the consolation bracket, as well as teammate Mukadam.
Steele had been knocked out of the winner’s bracket in the opener, falling to eventual state champion Gabriella Fleming of Xavier. Steele’s tournament ended with a loss in the seventh-place match, falling to Riley Northwehr of Clarinda.
Mukadam went 1-2 on the weekend. She did have a first round win, beating Wahlert’s Claire Mier 6-0, 6-3, before dropping a quarterfinal battle 6-1, 6-0 to Columbus’ Kate Holton.
