Stransky, Burton lead Highland girls past Hillcrest
Huskies double up Ravens for fourth win in-a-row

RIVERSIDE — Don’t look now, but the Highland girls basketball team is playing is playing its best ball of the season.
The Huskies continued to run hot on Tuesday night, beating Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division rival Hillcrest Academy 48-24, Highland’s fourth-straight win.
'We knew we couldn’t underestimate them,“ said Abbi Stransky, who led the team with 18 points. ”We knew we had to go out and fight.“
It was a milestone night for Stransky, who scored eight points in the first quarter to spark her big night. A basket in the second period gave the Huskies’ junior 500 career points.
“She does a lot of everything,” said Highland head coach Jody Fink. “During our big run, it was steals, blocks, rebounds, scoring. You name it, she was putting something in the stat book.”
Sarah Burton scored 14 points in the win. Mackinze Hora finished with five. Jessica Kraus scored four. Dani Laughlin had three, and both Emma Soukup and Anna Herrig scored two.
After being outscored 24-8 in the first two periods, Hillcrest Academy jumped out to a fast start in the third, cutting the lead to 13 points at one point, and winning the quarter 14-13. The Ravens couldn’t keep it up in the fourth.
“Tonight was probably a game where, if we had a couple more years of experience, the game might have been a little more different,” said Hillcrest head coach Mitchell Drey. “But Highland is a great team, and they played great today.”
Esther Hughes scored 12 points to lead the Ravens. Malia Yoder scored six. Norah Yoder, Leah Bontrager and Delaney Shaw each had two.
Highland is now 10-9 overall and 9-6 in conference play. Hillcrest Academy is 1-16 overall and 0-14 in the league.
