Students take part in summer state games
AMES ? Several Special Olympics athletes from Pence, Fairfield Middle School and Fairfield High School participated in the Special Olympics State Summer Games held May 17-19 in Ames.
Athletes competed in both cycling and track and field events.

AMES ? Several Special Olympics athletes from Pence, Fairfield Middle School and Fairfield High School participated in the Special Olympics State Summer Games held May 17-19 in Ames.
Athletes competed in both cycling and track and field events.
Ross Robinson, Jessica Clements, Andrew Peiffer, Wesley Polson and Justin Cross all won gold medals in the 250-meter cycling race. Nathan Mathis and Trevor Pisano placed runner-up, and Jacob Fairchild won a bronze medal. Justin Morehouse received a fourth-place ribbon and Daniel Farrell won a fifth-place ribbon in the 250-meter race.
In the 1-kilometer cycling race, Farrell and Cross received gold medals to add to their hardware from the 250-meter race. Mathis, Fairchild, Morehouse and Peiffer all received silver medals. Pisano finished with bronze, while Polson and Robinson won fourth- and fifth-place medals, respectively.
In track events, Robinson won silver and Pisano won bronze in the softball throw. Cross received silver in the long jump and bronze in the 50-yard dash, while Peiffer won bronze in the long jump as well as a fourth-place medal in the 100-dash. Wesley Polson finished runner-up in the 100-dash.
