Swanson sinks Nikes at buzzer

BURLINGTON - New London senior Grant Swanson came up clutch on Tuesday night for the New London boys, delivering a game-winning shot at the buzzer to beat Notre Dame. Swanson's bucket lifted the Tigers past the nIkes 59-57 in the boys game, getting revenge for a 64-38 loss in the girls game.
Swanson's shot came with the game tied 57-57. His two-pointer helped the Tigers snap a modest two-game losing streak.
Those three points brought his total to a game-leading 26. Blaise Porter finished the night with 19, and Kade Benjamin had 10 to give the Tigers three double-digit scorers. Markel Luckett put up four points for the only other New London points.
New London handed Notre Dame its first loss of the year. The Nikes came into the game undefeated in both boys and girls basketball.
In the girls game, New London trailed 21-14 after one quarter, 38-24 at halftime and 47-31 after three periods.
Layney Loyd had another big game, going for 18 points and 12 rebounds. Marah Hartrick had 12 points and four assists. Kara Krieger scored six points, and Addie Pry finished with two points and 13 rebounds.
The New London boys are now 2-2 overall and 2-2 in the SEISC South Division. The Tiger girls fell to 2-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
The Tiger basketball teams will host Van Buren County on Friday, Dec. 18.
