The Washington High School girls track team placed third at the Falcon Relays Tuesday and some athletes impressed Demons coach Stefanie Haworth.
'The meet went pretty well and our upperclassmen had a great meet,” Haworth said.
She was particularly impressed with three athletes - Jenah Greiner, Ashley Telleen and Isabel Bailey.
'It was a great night night for Jenah, especially since she was gone all last week for spring break and was sick the week before, so for her to come out and accomplish everything she did makes me extremely excited to see how the rest of the season goes for her,” Haworth said.
Greiner won the long jump, was second in the 400, fourth in the 200 and ran a great split on the Demons' 4x100 meter relay that finished second.
'Ashley had an outstanding meet,” Haworth said. 'She won the 100 hurdles, which is a race that she doesn't typically run. She had a solid time and was all smiles afterwards, its so fun to see someone come out and accomplish something they weren't sure was possible. She works so hard everyday in practice and it was great to see it pay off.”
Telleen also had solid races in the 400 hurdles, finishing second, was the anchor of the sprint medley relay that finished third and was a member of our the second-place 4x1, which is another race she has never run.
'Isabel Bailey looked solid as well,” Haworth said. 'She had a solid race in the 100 and ran a great leg on our 4x1.”
Bailey placed fourth in the high jump, which was something new she wanted to try this year.
'We are a very young team but we have a lot of potential,” Haworth said. 'I think with a little more time to get these girls to realize what they are truly capable of, our times will drop and our places will go up. It was a good first meet for everyone to get those jitters out, and see what things are like at the varsity level. If they continue to work hard they will be able to accomplish a lot this season.”
