The spring sports postseason is officially here, and when the action finally hits, it certainly hits hard.
This week will mark one of the wildest stretches in the high school sports calendar year, with a handful of conference championships and state qualifiers taking place all throughout Southeast Iowa.
The area’s big schools have already jumped into postseason tennis action. Mt. Pleasant, Fairfield and Maharishi met up for a couple of big meets on Monday morning, as the Southeast Conference girls championships are happening in Fort Madison, and the boys’ district meet is taking place in Fairfield.
As of press time, neither the SEC girls meet or district boys’ meet have concluded. Both began at 9 a.m.
One day after the boys’ district meet in Fairfield, the SEC schools will travel to Burlington for a rescheduled conference championship. That meet begins at 9 a.m.
On Wednesday, the girls’ tennis teams will be in Fairfield for the regional singles and doubles meet. That is also the same day as the girls’ SEC golf meet in Burlington, and the boys’ sectionals at Fort Madison.
The area’s small school boys’ golf teams also will be at sectionals on Wednesday, with meets taking place around Southeast Iowa. All classes will have state qualifying track meets on Thursday, and regional girls golf begins on Friday.
