The Gazette’s Iowa high school football rankings

With another week of Iowa high school football down, it means another week of The Cedar Rapids Gazette’s football rankings.

Heading into week seven, teams are starting to solidify their positions in their districts and setting themselves up for postseason play.

With the post week six rankings, thing are looking very similar to the week prior as three area squads still have their names inside the top 10.

Those three being Winfield-Mt. Union and WACO in 8-Player and Sigourney-Keota in Class 1A.

While Winfield-Mt. Union holds the No. 1 spot in a lot of polls, the Wolves still come in at No. 2 in The Gazette poll.

The Wolves (6-0) put together yet another dominant performance on Friday night, taking down Iowa Valley 76-14.

It’s WMU’s third straight 70 point performance. The Wolves will look to keep the winning streak up this Friday with a favorable matchup with Mormon Trail (1-5) at home.

Mormon Trail comes in on a five game slide.

WACO (5-1) enters week seven at No. 10 on the 8-Player list.

The Warriors downed New London last week on the road, 67-8.

WACO’s lone loss this season was to Winfield-Mt. Union.

The Warrior’s will host English Valleys (2-4) on Friday. The Bears were defeated by Colo-Nesco in their last matchup.

WACO has won nine in a row against English Valleys.

The 8-Players teams have just two more regular season games before the postseason.

Sigourney-Keota (5-1) moves up in the rankings this week.

The Cobras picked up a dominant win a week ago against a stout Pella Christian team 42-15.

This time around, the Cobras will play host to Colfax-Mingo (1-5).

Last week, Colfax-Mingo was defeated by Pleasantville 39-0.
