The Southeast Conference released its all-conference girls basketball teams over the weekend and as expected, the Union coverage area was well represented. There were 13 Union area players named to the team, with Fairfield and Washington receiving five honorees and Mt. Pleasant racking up three.
The area had three first team nominations, two for Fairfield and one for Washington. Senior duo Shaylin Drish and Destiny Gridley made the first team for the Trojans, and Washington junior Anna Nacos represented the Demons.
Drish scored 15 points per fame this season, the top mark in the entire SEC. She made a league-high 42 3-pointers and also led the league with 93 steals and 84 assists. On top of that, she finished sixth in the conference in total rebounds.
Gridley scored 9.7 points per game this season, sixth in the conference. She also finished tied for fourth in the SEC in rebounds, with 112.
Nacos finished third in the SEC in scoring, putting up 11.8 points per game. She was the lone Demon in double digits on the season and hit 35 three-pointers, which was fourth in the conference.
Four area players were named to the All-SEC second team. Fairfield sophomore Danielle Breen, Mt. Pleasant senior Lydia Stewart and Washington senior duo Olivia Pacha and Addison Six all made the list.
Breen scored 9 points per game and pulled down 92 rebounds, third on the Trojan team in both categories.
Stewart led Mt. Pleasant in scoring, putting up eight points per game. She was also the deep threat for The Panthers, knocking down 23 3-pointers on the year, and finishing second on the team with 35 steals.
Six and Pacha powered the post for Washington. Six was second on the team with 7.7 points per game and second with 118 reobunds. Pacha scored 6.3 points per game and led the squad with 128 boards.
Each SEC team received at least two honorable mentions. Fairfield was represented by sophomore Denaley Breen and junior Olivia Jones. Mt. Pleasant junior Emma Huckabone and freshman Tristian Shull were selected, as were Washington seniors Kinsey Duwa and Halle Leyden.
