Three Golden Hawks selected to play in Senior Shoot-Out

There were nine seniors on Mid-Prairie?s state-tournament qualifying girls? basketball squad this season, and three of those seniors have been chosen to play in Sunday?s CVC-Big East Senior Shoot-Out in Tipton.
Seniors Mariah Swartzentruber, Mallory McArtor and Erika Murphy were selected to represent Mid-Prairie after leading the Golden Hawks to an 18-8 record and the school?s first state tournament berth since 2004 this season.
Swartzentruber, a 5-foot-8 forward, averaged 10.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this season to lead the Golden Hawks in both categories. She also led Mid-Prairie in made 3-point goals with 33 on the season.
McArtor, a 5-foot-5 guard, added 9.6 points per game. She led the Golden Hawks in free throws made and attempted (77-for-129), and she was an excellent defender, averaging just over three steals per game. Swartzentruber and McArtor were both first team All-Cedar Valley Conference selections.
Murphy, a 5-foot-6 forward, scored 6.4 points per game this season, and she also chipped in 3.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
Sunday?s boy-girl doubleheader will be the final time the CVC-Big East Senior Shoot-Out will be held. Next year, the two conferences will not exist in their current memberships and a new set of senior games will occur. The girls? game will tip off at 3 p.m. at the Tipton Middle School, with the boys? contest to follow at approximately 4:30 p.m.
