Three run sixth propels WMU past New London
Wolves score in all but one inning to get past Tigers in SEISC matchup

NEW LONDON — Winfield-Mt. Union and New London softball squared off in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference battle on Wednesday night and it did not disappoint.
In a game that was sealed in the final two innings, the Wolves took the victory over the Tigers 8-4.
Through one inning it was anyone game to take.
By the end of the first frame, both the Wolves and Tigers sat at one run a piece.
In the second, the Tigers took control.
After holding Winfield-Mt. Union scoreless in the top half of the second, the Tigers brought a pair of runs home in the bottom of the inning to build a 3-1 lead.
From then on out, WMU began to click, as the Wolves put a run on the board in every inning until the final out.
The Wolves scored one run in three straight innings all while shutting the Tigers out.
The WMU deficit eventually turned into a 4-3 lead after a single run in the fifth.
They would never trail again.
New London brought a run home in the bottom of the sixth, which would have locked the game at 4-4, but prior the Wolves drove in a game-high three runs in the top half of the sixth to make it 7-4 heading into the seventh.
WMU added one insurance run in the top of the seventh and the Tigers couldn’t keep the game alive in their half of the frame.
Anna Anderson led the Wolves with two hits and three RBIs in the victory.
Kellee Milks and Josie Nelson both had two hits as well. Milks had one RBI.
Quin Smith, Keely Malone, Jessi Renken, Emily Weiskircher and Ella Kann all had one hit.
Smith, Renken and Weiskircher all had an RBI along with the hit.
Smith threw a complete game, giving up four runs (zero earned) on five hits, six walks and three strikeouts.
With the win, Winfield-Mt. Union improves to 2-6 on the season.
New London still is searching for its first victory at 0-8.
