Fourth-ranked Mid-Prairie struggled, Pekin played at Duane Banks Field and Winfield-Mount Union rallied for its first win in a busy Thursday and Friday of prep baseball.
Keota 4, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 2
The Eagles scored the first four runs in Thursday’s nonconference home win over EBF.
Colten Clarahan was rock-solid, giving up just two runs (one earned) and striking out six rockets in a complete-game win. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
Keota 5, Colfax-Mingo 0
Aidan Anderson threw 5.2 shutout innings as the Eagles continued to hold opposing offenses silent on Friday. He added a 2-for-4 day at the plate to that resume.
Caden Clarahan was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Colten Clarahan was 3-for-3.
Cascade 3, No. 4 (2A) Mid-Prairie 0
Mid-Prairie was upended on the road, collecting just six hits in a loss at Cascade.
Collin Miller and Will Cavanagh went 2-for-3 in the loss. Brock Harland was 1-for-3 with a double.
No. 4 (1A) New London 15, West Burlington 0
Dereck Santiago pitched a two-hit shut out and the bats were on fire as New London stomped West Burlington in a four-inning Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division home game.
Kooper Schulte went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs to lead the offense. Camden Kasel had two hits and an RBI.
No. 4 (1A) New London 8, Hillcrest Academy 1
New London won again on Friday in a Union-area clash with Hillcrest. A full story of this game will be in Tuesday’s edition of the Union.
Cardinal 15, Danville 1
The Comets stayed in second in the SEISC South with a blowout win over Cardinal. The road team needed just five innings to vanquish the Bears.
Freshman Tatem Telfer gave up just one run over five innings of work on the bump. He helped himself at the plate going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Blaine Bryant went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Notre Dame 2, Van Buren County 1
Van Buren County scored just one run off of Notre Dame pitching in a tough SEISC South home loss.
Lone Tree 10, Van Buren County 6
A tough night on defense led to a crossover loss for the Warriors, despite an early 4-2 lead.
Van Buren County led most of the night, including 5-4 after the top of the fifth. Lone Tree put up six in their half of the fifth to steal the game.
Highland 9, Central Lee 6
The bats were rattling in Riverside as Highland pushed past Central Lee in a SEISC crossover.
Kaige Vonnahme was 2-for-3 with four RBIs in the win. Connor Grinstead went 1-for-4 with a hoemr and two RBIs.
The Huskies have now won 11-straight games.
Mediapolis 8, Pekin 2
The Panthers scored two first-inning runs against first-place Mediapolis, but they couldn’t upend the high-powered and undefeated Bulldogs.
Colton Comstock went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the loss. Chase Stansberry scored a run of his own.
Central Lee 17, Pekin 11
Runs were scored in bunches as the Panthers met up with Central Lee at Duane Banks Field in Iowa City.
The Panthers held a 7-3 lead after two innings, but the Hawks scored 14 runs over their next four at-bats.
Hudson VanEnglehoven went 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Blake Juhl was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs, and Jackson Horras walked three times and scored three runs.
Lone Tree 7, Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus 1
The Wolves struggled offensively in an SEISC road loss to Lone Tree. The Lions scored all seven runs from the third to fifth innings.
Winfield-Mount Union/Columbus 4, Danville 3
The Wolves trailed 2-1 going into the final inning, but a three-run seventh helped the team secure its first win of the season.
Nick Crow pitched a complete game to earn the win on the mound.
