Thursday preliminaries: Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant advance in girls shuttle hurdles

DES MOINES — The Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant girls shuttle hurdle teams have been going at it all year, and they’ll get one more shot in the Class 3A state finals on Saturday.
The Trojans and Panthers both advanced out of the 24-team field. Fairfield’s quartet of Anna Dunlap, Maya Lane, Brynley Allison and Kelsey Pachatook fifth place, in 1:08.59. Mt. Pleasant’s group of Kenna Lamm, Jenna Gilmore, Josie Gilmore and Karsyn Lamm qualified seventh, in 1:09.13.
The Trojans and Panthers will run side by side at Saturday’s finals. Mt. Pleasant will be in Lanes 1 and 2, while Fairfield is in Lanes 3 and 4.
Dunlap had a big day for the Trojans. Along with the shuttle hurdles qualification, she also qualified in the 100-meter dash, coming across with the seventh-best time of 12.89 seconds.
Mid-Prairie had one runner qualify for Saturday’s finals. Mitzi Evans had the sixth-best time in the 200-meter dash, crossing in 26.31 seconds.
