LACROSSE, WI — The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team wrapped up its regular season on Wednesday in a game against the Viterbo University V-Hawks.
The Tigers came up just short in the season finale, 2-1, as the V-Hawks walked off in the bottom of the ninth.
It was Viterbo that struck first in the contest. The V-Hawks scored in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 advantage.
Iowa Wesleyan got the bats going in the top of the fourth. The Tiger’s Dominic Gerace got himself to second with a double. Gerace then advanced to third off a wild pitch by the V-Hawks. Froymer Ortega then delivered with an RBI single to bring Gerace across home plate, tying the game at 1-1.
After four scoreless innings, Viterbo answered in the bottom of the ninth with a walk off to take the game away from Iowa Wesleyan.
Ortega ended his day 2-4 from the plate with two singles and an RBI. Gerace was 1-3 with a double. Garrett Bair pitched three inning for the Tigers. Bair gave up just one run and two hits. Jackson Van Roekel pitched two innings, giving up no hits.
The Tigers will now prepare for the Continental Athletic Conference Tournament. The Tigers await to see who they will draw in the first round.
