NEW LONDON - The New London baseball team had a rocky start to the 2019 season in their first two games of the year last week. The Panthers lost 19-1 against Mediapolis on Wednesday and 10-0 against Central Lee on Thursday.
The Tigers collected four hits in the Mediapolis loss. Jaxon Allen was 1-3 with an RBI. Kooper Schulte went 1-4 wiht a run scored, and both Seth Bailey and Shae Summerfield collected hits. The game was 9-1 after six innings but Mediapolis exploded for 10 in the seventh.
Darius Whaley took the loss, giving up six runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks, while striking out two batters.
In the loss to Central Lee, the Tigers gave up two runs in the first inning, two in the third, one in the fourthh, two in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Carter Allen went 1-2 in the loss, as did Bailey. Summerfield was 1-3.
Summerfield took the loss, giving up four runs (two earned) on two hits and four walks.
New London is scheduled to play at rival Danville tonight (Tuesday), weather permitting.
