FULTON, Mo. — Iowa Wesleyan baseball jumped out to a strong start in a weekend four-game series, but the Tigers struggled mightily in the next three games.
After winning the series opener 7-3 on Saturday, the Tigers scored just seven runs for the rest of the series. Westminster took Game 2 on Saturday, 5-1, and then rolled to wins of 10-4 and 13-2 on Sunday.
The Tigers’ Game 1 victory was a comeback. Iowa Wesleyan trailed 3-1 after four innings but scored the next six runs.
Nick Salas had the lone Tiger RBI in the early innings, launching a solo home run in the fourth inning. Jake Leonard scored a pair on a two-run home run in the fifth, and Salas scored on an error later in the inning to put Wesleyan up 4-3.
The Tigers tacked on three in the seventh inning. Chris De’Elia and Minami Matsumoto each had an RBI single, and Salas scored his third run of the game on an error.
Salas and Ee’Elia each had three-hit games in the win.
Cuay Massner had the win in Game 1, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks over seven innings. He also struck out five.
Iowa Wesleyan’s only RBI of Game 2 came on a Dominic Gerace double in the sixth inning. Corbin Broeker had two RBIs in Game 3 on Sunday.
The Tigers had a short-lived 1-0 lead in Game 4 when Jake Leonard opened the scoring with an RBI single in the first. Erik Kiewiet had a solo home run in that game.
The Tiger baseball team is now 4-12 on the season.
