Tiger basketball teams swept at Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Iowa Wesleyan basketball teams were swept in a SLIAC doublehader at Fontbonne University on Monday night. The women fell 73-58 and the men dropped their game 90-64.
The Tiger women led 21-16 after one quarter but Fontbonne took the lead in the second and held a 37-29 advantage at the half. The Griffins won the third quarter 17-15 and the fourth quarter 19-14 to pull away for the eventual 15-point win.
Allie Massner had a big game despite the loss. She scored 22 points on 7-14 shooting the ball, 3-10 from three-point land and 5-6 from the line.
Deerika Martin had a nice shooting night, going 5-8 from the field and 4-7 from downtown for 14 points. She also led the team with five assists. Darby Massner had 13 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Harriet Fowler scored eight points and Jordanne Mickley had one.
The men's team went down early. Fontbonne led 44-27 at halftime and won the second half 46-37.
Jarryd Fernandes had 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots to lead the team. He finished the game 5-5. Alberto Torres had 10 points to give the Tigers two double-digit scorers.
Jake Neubauer had nine points in the loss. Austin Banks scored seven points and dished out four assists. Brian Patterson scored six. Joshua Cole and Alex Dentlinger had four points each. Camron Mack finished with three and Kaleb Cresswell scored two.
The women's team fell to 3-12 overall and 2-7 in the conference. The men fell to 5-12 and 3-7. Both teams will be back on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 23, when they take on Webster University.
