DONNELLSON - The New London basketball team picked up right where the football team left off, with a dominant win. Just a couple of weeks after wrapping up an eight-man football championship, the Tigers began their basketball season with a dominant win, ripping through Central Lee 81-38.
Mason Porter hit the 1,000 point mark in his career, scoring 20 points on the night, but he wasn't the top scorer for the Tigers. Jalen Birdsell paced the team with 24, his career high.
Keontae Luckett had 10 points in the win. Darius Whaley and Grant Swanson each finished the game with nine.
The Tigers will now turn their attention towards rival Danville, who beat Holy Trinity by 17 points on Tuesday night. The Tigers and Bears will show down on Friday, Nov. 30, in what will be an early marquee matchup in the SEISC South Division.
