Tiger boys walked off by Notre Dame

NEW LONDON - A heartbreaking defeat awaited the New London baseball team in Burlington on monday night. After going in to the seventh inning with a 6-2 lead, the Tigers gave up five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a stunning loss against conference rival Notre Dame.
The Tigers scored two runs in the first inning when Shae Summerfield hit a clutch two-out two-run triple to open the scoring. Notre Dame scored one run in the bottom of the first, but the Tigers held their 2-1 lead through three innings.
New London added three runs in the fourth inning. Summerfield had another RBI on a single, and two more runs crossed on errors.
The Nikes scored a run in the bottom of the fourht, but New London added one in the fifth when Conor Schoenbein scored on another Notre Dame Error.
New London reliever Jaxon Allen got the first out on the first batter in the bottom of the seventh, but the next five runners reached base. A tough defensive stretch for the Tigers led to an eventual game-winning RBI by Notre Dame's Riley Koenig.
Summerfield finished the day 3-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Allen was 2-3 with two runs scored. Ryan Richey went 2-4. Schoenbein and Kooper Schulte each went 1-3 with a run scored.
Darius Whaley had a strong start, giving up just two runs (one earned) on three and two-thirds innings. He gave up two hits and two walks, and also struck out two batters.
Allen was tagged with the loss. He threw two and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks. Allen had one strikeout in the loss.
New London fell to 0-4 on the season. They'll play Van Buren tonight (Tuesday) in SEISC South Division action.
