NEW LONDON - The New London girls didn't back down from their challenge against Class 2A's 11th-ranked Van Buren on Monday night despite being down to just five players. Both Alisha Boles and Jenna Hummel were out, meaning all five starters had to play the whole game. Van Buren won the contest 57-36.
The Tigers trailed 15-9 after the first quarter and 35-13 at halftime. New London played the Warriors even in the second half, however, splitting the final two quarters 22-22.
Marah Hartrick and Layney Loyd scored 13 points apiece. Ashlyn McSorley had five points. Kara Kreiger had three points, and Addie Pry scored two.
The Tigers will now turn their attention toward a regional game at Notre Dame on Thursday, Feb. 7.
