Tiger men and women fall to William Penn
OSKALOOSA ? The Iowa Wesleyan men?s soccer team traveled to William Penn University last night to take on the Statesmen. The Tigers fell to Penn 3-1, dropping the Tigers to 4-8 on the season.
The Statesmen struck first with a goal 22 minutes in. The Tigers answered quickly with a goal by Chris Matthews, his eleventh of the season, a team high.
Caio Da Costa assisted the goal, his fifth on the year.

OSKALOOSA ? The Iowa Wesleyan men?s soccer team traveled to William Penn University last night to take on the Statesmen. The Tigers fell to Penn 3-1, dropping the Tigers to 4-8 on the season.
The Statesmen struck first with a goal 22 minutes in. The Tigers answered quickly with a goal by Chris Matthews, his eleventh of the season, a team high.
Caio Da Costa assisted the goal, his fifth on the year.
Ten minutes later the Statesmen took the lead for good. The Tigers went into halftime down 2-1 and couldn?t get any offense going in the second half. Penn scored once more at the 72 minute mark for insurance.
Wesleyan keeper Brett Broderson faced 11 shots on the night, making eight saves.
The Tigers next game is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 14, against Robert Morris University at East Lake Park. Scheduled start time is 1 p.m.
The Tiger women also played William Penn yesterday, falling to the Statesmen, 4-0. The Tigers are now 3-11 on the season.
The teams were locked in a scoreless tie until the 34th minute of the match.
Tiger goalkeeper Kaytlyn Owens? pass out of the box after a save ended up directly in front of a Statesmen player, who then put the ball in the net for the first goal of the match.
Just two minutes later the Statesmen struck again to go up by a 2-0 score. They added one more goal in the first to go into the half with a 3-0 lead over the Tigers.
In the second half, the Tigers fought hard but couldn?t produce any offense. The defense was solid, holding the Statesmen scoreless in the half until the 88-minute mark.
The Tigers took only seven shots on the day, led by Hannah McElroy with four. The Statesmen took 11 shots in the game, and Owens made seven saves.
The Tigers return home Sunday to take on William Woods University at 3 p.m. at East Lake Park.
