The Iowa Wesleyan men had an ice cold shooting night in their SLIAC home tilt with Spalding University on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers had a tough time scoring, especially in the first half, in a 66-48 loss.
The Tigers traded punches with the Golden Eagles early in the game and even led by three points seven-and-a-half minutes into the game. The Tigers had a 12-9 advantage with 12:40 remaining, but the Golden Eagles went on a 10-0 run and never gave up the lead after that.
IW went 8-26 from the field and 2-11 from three-point land in the first half. Spalding struggled from deep as well, but scored well inside and shot 50 percent from the field. Jarryd Fernandes and Alberto Torres each had seven points at half.
The Tigers improved from the field in the second half, but were still outscored 32-29, as Spalding cruised to their eighth SLIAC victory in 11 tries.
Torres finished the day with 15 points to lead the offense. Fernandes had a double-double in the win, scoring 13 points and pulling down 14 rebounds. Jake Neubauer had 11. Kaleb Cresswell scored five, and Austin Rebel ended the day with five. Austin Banks dished out a team-leading three assists.
IW fell to 5-14 overall and 3-9 in SLIAC play with the loss. The Tigers will host Principia tonight (Tuesday) at 7:30 p.m.
