LAWRENCE — Iowa Wesleyan University has not won a men’s basketball conference tournament since 2009. This weekend, the Tigers can change that statistic.
After a scorching hot 24-2 regular season, the 23rd ranked Tigers earned the No. 2 seed in the 2023 Continental Athletic Conference tournament, which begins this Friday.
The Tigers will take on hosting Haskell Indian Nations University in their quarterfinal, which will be the fourth of four men’s games being played on Friday. The Tigers have already beaten Haskell 81-60 earlier this year.
Although the start of the men’s tournament tips off at 9:45 a.m., on Friday, the Tiger men will wait until 8:15 p.m., to play their game.
A win for Iowa Wesleyan would pit them against either their-seeded Washington Adventist University or sixth-seeded Crowley’s Ridge College in the semifinals on Saturday.
On the other side of the bracket, 14th-ranked and top-seeded Florida College will take on Fisher College, the 8 seed. Fourth-seeded Voorhees University will be playing against fifth-seeded Arkansas Baptist College.
If Iowa Wesleyan wins its first game, the Tigers’ semifinal game would be at a similar time, 8:30 p.m., on Saturday. The Tigers are two wins away from the conference championship game on Sunday. A CAC title berth would give the Tigers an automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament.
