Tiger men fall to Olivet, Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Iowa Wesleyan men's soccer team was in Monmouth, Ill., on Monday night, two days after hosting Olivet College. Both games turned up losses for the Tigers, who fell 5-3 to Olivet on Saturday and 3-2 in overtime on Monday.
The Tigers got off to a slow start on Saturday. Olivate scored the first three goals of the game, one each in the first minute, the 13th minute and the 26th minute.
The Tigers got back into the game on a penalty kick. Rogerio Rodrigues lined up for the kick after a handball in the box. He scored and the Olivet lead was down to two, at 3-1 heading into halftime.
IW scored first in the second half. Fabian Arvizu took an assist from Francisco Saldana and made it 3-2 to put the pressure on Olivet.
The Tigers gave up two goals in a row once they cut it to one goal, however. Olivet scored in the 60th minute and the 74th minute.
Chris Rimmer was in net for IW on Saturday. He saved two shots in the loss.
All four regulation goals were scored in the first half on Monday night in Monmouth. Raul Garcia had the first goal of the night, putting IW up 1-0 in the 14th minute.
After an equalizing goal in the 17th minute, IW struck again. Fabian Arvizu took an assist from Sebastian Sosa and scored to give the Tigers a 2-1 advantage.
Monmouth tied the game again, this time with just 1:09 remaining in the first half. The second half was scoreless and the teams went into overtime tied 4-4.
Monmouth's Duh Thang had the game-winning goal in overtime. Thang got an assist from Alvaro Alvarez, the same player who tied the game at the end of the first half.
Rimmer was in net again on Monday. He finished the game with five saves.
