The Iowa Wesleyan softball team has been competing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina this week, continuing its early season schedule.
In a very competitive event in which the Tigers competed against teams from all over the country, they’re still searching for their first win.
Day One for the Tigers was on March 6. Iowa Wesleyan matched up with Madonna University in the first of two games and then Goldey Beacom College in the second.
The Crusaders of Madonna struck early and often against the Tigers.
Madonna scored four runs in the top of the first inning. Iowa Wesleyan was able to get a run back after Kara Krieger scored on a past ball.
The Crusaders didn’t let up at the plate. They scored another four runs between the second and third inning to make it a 8-1 ballgame.
Iowa Wesleyan was able to chip into the lead a bit in the bottom of the fourth with RBI singles from Julia Hill and Ariana Wolfard, making it a five run game, 8-3.
That was as close as the Tigers would come as the Crusaders added an additional three runs, downing the Tigers 11-3.
In the second game of the day, Iowa Wesleyan faced the Lighting of Goldey Beacom.
The Lighting proved to be too much for the Tigers as they fell in five innings, 10-0.
On March 7, day two of the action, the Tigers met with Malone College and Keiser University.
Malone College came out swinging early in the first four innings. The Pioneers dropped five runs on the Tigers.
Iowa Wesleyan was able to get on the board in the top of the sixth inning with a triple from Alexis Davis, which scored Emilee Rooney. Nicole Shirrell added another run with a sacrifice bunt, scoring Davis and cutting the lighting lead, 5-2.
The Lighting continued to answer back, this time adding another three runs in the bottom of the sixth to increase the lead, 8-2.
Davis produced yet again in the top of the seventh hitting an two RBI double, bringing both Kylie Topliff and Krieger across home plate.
It wasn’t enough though as the Tigers ran out of time and the Pioneers held on for an 8-4 victory.
Against Keiser University, the Tigers kept the game within reach for five straight inning, only giving up one run.
In the bottom of the six; however, the Seahawks poured on six runs to quickly make it a seven run game and sealing the Tigers defeat.
Iowa Wesleyan, in its day three matchups on March 8, drew Carolina University and Penn State-Beaver.
It was a hard fought day for the Tigers, but they fell to Carolina University 12-1 and lost a tight knit battle to Penn State-Beaver 6-4.
The Tigers will compete in Myrtle Beach until Friday and then they will be back in action on Wednesday, March 16 in St. Louis, Missouri.
