Tiger softball splits at Wapello

The Iowa Wesleyan softball team looked to extend their win streak Wednesday afternoon in a SLIAC double-header against Webster University. The Tigers made it seven in a row with a 10-7 win in game one, but dropped the second game 5-4 to the Gorloks in game two.
IW took the early lead in game one when Ashley Machholz singled and Kayla Ford was able to take advantage of an error by the first baseman. They would add two more runs in the third off a two run RBI by Alex Eyman, giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
Webster was finally able to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth, but Iowa Wesleyan answered with a five run inning in the top of the fifth. The five runs came off of five hits by the Tigers, including a single by Emma McDanel, a two-run double by Morgan Christner, and a two-run single by Taylor Johnson.
The Gorloks scored six runs over the next two innings, Iowa Wesleyan scored in the top of the sixth and added a run in the top of the seventh. They were able to shut out Webster in the bottom of the seventh to secure the game one win.
Kayla Ford and Alex Eyman led the Tigers with three hits apiece and four different Tigers recorded two RBIs. Morgan Christner picked up her 10th win of the season after striking out seven batters through seven innings.
Webster took the early lead in game two, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. After a scoreless second and third inning, Iowa Wesleyan scored all four of their runs in the top of the fourth inning. McKena Woolery drove in the first two runs with a double down the left field line. Allison Daum and Kayla Ford followed with RBI singles of their own to bring in the next two runs for the Tigers.
Iowa Wesleyan wasn't able to hold onto the lead as Webster tied the game up at 4-4 with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. They added a run in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead, and both teams failed to score for the remainder of the game. Webster was able to hang on to take game two by a score of 5-4.
Kayla Ford had another three hit game for Iowa Wesleyan. Alex Eyman and McKena Woolery each added two hits apiece in the loss. Emma McDanel pitched six innings and finished with two earned runs.
Iowa Wesleyan will have a busy weekend. They will play six games over the course of three days, starting with a double-header against Lincoln College at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 12. The Tigers are now 16-7 overall and 7-3 in SLIAC play
