WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. - The Iowa Wesleyan volleyball team continued its early-season slide on Saturday in a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road game at Webster University. The third-place Gorloks swept the Tigers 25-19, 25-23, 25-18 to hand IW its fifth-straight loss.
The Tigers played the Gorloks tight in every match but could never grab a set win. Webster out-killed Iowa Wesleyan 37-29, and Iowa Wesleyan had 24 errors to Webster's 20.
Emily Gehring and Malieokekai DeMate coled Iowa Wesleyan with eight kills apiece in the loss. Skylar Garcillel finished the game with five kills. Anna Leidl had four. Lezar'Rhea Burnside had three, and Lindsay Fernandez ended with one.
Jenna Murhpy led the Tiger back line with 16 digs on the night. Fernandez dished out a team-high 13 assists.
The Tigers had five service errors on the day, compared to just two service aces. Jaden Streeter had both aces for the Tigers.
With only eight games to go in this conference-only season, Iowa Wesleyan needs to right the ship soon. The Tigers (1-5) will attempt to start off the month of March right when they host Greenville University (6-1) tonight (Tuesday).
