CANTON, Mo. — Iowa Wesleyan volleyball was looking to pick up its second win of the season on Friday with a victory over Culver-Stockton College.
The Tiger came into the contest off a 3-0 sweep of Faith Baptist Bible College, but the Culver-Stockton Wildcats had other plans as they completed the sweep of the Tigers, 25-12, 25-23 and 25-23.
It was a struggle out of the gates for the Tigers as the Wildcats took the advantage early and never gave it up on the way to the dominant first set victory.
Iowa Wesleyan got things rolling in set two.
The Tigers battled the entire set. After being down, 22-17, with their backs against the wall, the Tigers rallied off six straight points to give themselves a 23-22 advantage. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be though as the Wildcats answered back with three straight points to take the set.
Set three was much of the same.
Iowa Wesleyan held the lead for much of the start, not losing its lead until 8-7. The Tigers hung on though, tying the game at 13 and 15. The Wildcats then put some distance between themselves and the Tigers, making it a 22-17 game.
Much like the second set, the Tigers answered, once again scoring six straight to take the lead 23-22. It was the same story though as Culver-Stockton finished with the final three points of the set to take the victory.
The Tigers fall to 2-14 on the season. Offensively, the Tigers were led offensively by Malie DaMate with 10 kills. Defensively, the Tigers were led by Alexis Hafenstine with 17 digs.
Iowa Wesleyan will look to bounce back on Sept. 29 in Columbia, Missouri at 6 p.m. against the Stephen College Stars.
