Wins haven't come easy for the Iowa Wesleyan women so far this season. The Tigers are 1-8 overall and still hunting for that first SLIAC win, currently sitting in eighth place in the standings at 0-3.
The Tigers lost their first SLIAC game 78-55 at Westminster, their only conference home game 94-57 against Webster and another SLIAC road game 70-52 at Spalding. The Tigers have also lost to Principia, 53-49, but that game doesn't count in the conference standings with the Panthers being on probation.
Darby Massner has been the leader for IW in most of its conference games. She led the team with 21 points at Westminster, scored 15 points agains Webster to co-lead the squad along with Harriet Fowler, and dropped 21 points on Spalding. Allie Massner led the team at Principia with 16 points.
In IW's only nonconference win of the year, Darby had 20 points and 20 rebounds to lead the Tigers.
Darby is the fourth-leading scorer in the SLIAC with 16.6 poitns per game. She trails Principia's Nikki Matters (20.3 PPG) and the Westminster duo of Kendahl Adams (18.4 PPG) and Mirrakohl Johnson (17.5 PPG). In conference games only, however, Darby leads the league with 19 points per game, with Wesminter taking the next three spots. Kallee Dowler is close behind Darby with 18.8 points per game in conference play.
There are three undefeated teams left in SLIAC women's basketball. Westminster is sitting alone in first place at 4-0, and both Greenville and Spalding are 3-0. Webster is currently taking up the fourth spot with a 3-1 record. Their only loss came at Spalding.
The Tigers are one of two winless teams in the conference. MacMurray is 0-4, which puts them a half game back of the Tigers. Principia isn't included in the standings this season. The Panthers had no team last year and is still working back to be eligible for the conference tournament.
The Tigers do have a couple of winnable games to start up the new year. IW will open the 2019 schedule with a home game against Blackburn on Wedenesday, Jan. 2, before taking on MacMurray on the road on Saturday, Jan. 5.
