Tiger women take third at Warrior Open

FREMONT, Neb — The No. 10 Iowa Wesleyan women’s wrestling team competed in the Warrior Open on Sunday hosted by Midland University.
The Tigers finished third in competition, along with a trio that placed third individually.
At 101, the Tigers were represented by #9 Alaina Sunlin. In her opening round match, Sunlin advanced on a bye. In her quarterfinal contest, Sunlin defeated Tracey Kessler of Missouri Valley College by tech fall 10-0.
Sunlin fell in semifinal matchup to #8 Jasmine Alexander of Grand View University by fall in 2:51, falling to the consolation bracket. In her first consolation match, Sunlin defeated Bemnet Tesfa of Hastings College by fall in 1:22 to advance to the third place match.
In the third place match, Sunlin defeated Kessler by tech fall again, this time 12-0 to place 3rd in the 101-pound bracket.
In the 109-pound weight class, the Tigers were represented by #17 Faith Cole.
In Cole's opening round match, she defeated Rachel Cotter of William Penn by tech fall 10-0. Cole fell to Eva Diaz of Grand View University by decision 10-2 to fall to the consolation bracket.
In her first consolation match, Cole defeated Natalie Duran of Iowa Western Community College by tech fall 10-0. In her second consolation, Cole defeated Alana Garcia of Oklahoma City University by tech fall 10-0. In her third consolation match, Cole defeated #20 Candice Brickell of Hastings College by tech fall 10-0 to advance to the 3rd place match.
In the 3rd place match, Cole would get revenge on Diaz who defeated her in the quarterfinals, by defeating her by fall in 1:29 to place 3rd in the 109-pound bracket.
Zoe Smith represented the Tigers at 123.
Smith would advance on a bye in her opening round match. In her quarterfinal match, Smith defeated Rodiat Adeduntan of Iowa Central Community College by tech fall 10-0.
In her semifinal match, Smith was defeated by #11 Maya Davis of Grand View University by tech fall 10-0 to fall to the consolation bracket.
In her first consolation match, Smith defeated Anna Sondall of Iowa Central Community College by tech fall 10-0 to advance to the 3rd place match. Smith was defeated by Victoria Perales of Grand View University by decision 14-6 to place 4th in the 123-pound bracket.
At 130, the Tigers were represented by #12 Destiny Campbell.
Campbell defeated Marissa Burt of the University of Jamestown by fall in 2:34 in her first match of the day. In her second round match, Campbell fell to #15 Emily Paulino of Midland University by tech fall 10-0 to fall to the consolation bracket.
In her first consolation match, Campbell defeated Prethy Enriquez of Midland University by fall in 5:23. In her second consolation match, Campbell defeated Avery Sondall of Iowa Central Community College by fall in 1:34.
In her third consolation match, Campbell defeated Bronwyn Brenneman of Iowa Central Community College by fall in 0:58. In her fourth consolation match, Campbell was defeated by Bryce White of Oklahoma City University by fall in 4:41 to end her tournament.
In the 143-pound weight class, the Tigers were represented by #12 Isabelle Hawley.
Hawley's defeated MayLee Edwards of William Penn University by fall in 1:03 in her opening match. In her quarterfinal bout, Hawley defeated Sara Souresjhani of Avila University by tech fall 11-1.
In her semifinal match, Hawley was defeated by Lisa Hoeflich of Hastings College by fall in 4:21 to fall to the consolation bracket.
In her consolation match, Hawley defeated Niah Smith of Waldorf University by fall in 1:35 to move to the third place match. In the third place match, Hawley defeated Samantha Segura-Veliz of Midland University by fall in 2:35 to place 3rd in the 143-pound bracket.
The Tiger women will be back on the mat on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 6 p.m. in Ruble Arena against Iowa Central Community College.
