BETTENDORF — The Iowa Wesleyan men’s and women’s cross-country teams journeyed to Bettendorf on Saturday to compete in the Fighting Bee Invite hosted by St. Ambrose University.
It was a eventful day for both squads as each took sixth overall in the competition.
The women started the invite, running 5000-meters.
On a rugged and challenging course the Tiger women saw a lot of improvement from their previous outing, clocking several lifetime and season bests.
Leading the way was Lilly Garnsey, who was slotted as the number one runner for the first time in her career. Garnsey finished 19th with a time of 22:23, a new lifetime best and she shaved 1:09 off last weeks time at the Corridor XC Clash.
Faith Younce followed close behind Garnsey, finishing six second later for 20th overall.
Rounding out the top five for the Tiger women was Allison Morris in 25th, Lidia Pamos in 48th and Teya Hawkins in 53rd.
Pamos had herself a day, cutting last weeks time down by 1:18.
The Tigers finished sixth overall, while ousting Clarke University, Indiana Northwest University, Sauk Valley Community College, and Scott Community College. Mount Mercy was the team champion with nearly a perfect score of 17 points.
The Iowa Wesleyan men followed with the 8000-meter race.
Pacing the men was number one runner Logan Lucas. Lucas finished the invite in 27th place with a time of 30:14. First time runner Daron Jackson followed with a 39th place finish.
Kenny Tucker, 40th, Gannon McNamee, 53rd, and Andrew Huhuyana, 54th, rounded out the rest of the top five. The race was the first for former Mt. Pleasant runner McNamee.
With a sixth overall finish, the Tiger topped Scott Community College, Emmaus Bible College, Indiana Northwest University, and Sauk Valley Community College. Mount Mercy University completed the sweep on both sides, winning the men's team title with 43 points.
Both the Tiger men's and women's cross-country teams will travel to Ankeny, Iowa on Sept. 24 to compete in the Grand View Invite on DMACC's campus.
Iowa Wesleyan’s Allison Morris runs in a cross-country race back in 2021. Morris finished 25th at the Fighting Bee Invite in Beffendorf over the weekend. (Submitted)
