The No. 11 New London volleyball team washed away Moravia in three sets to move on to the Region 5 semifinals. It was the sixth sweep in as many games for New London, who has been on fire in the last two weeks. The Tigers ran away with games 25-8, 25-11 and 25-15.
The Tigers were coled by sophomore hitters Natalie Burden and Keaura Williams, who racked up nine kills apiece. Paris Wilka had six kills on the night, and both Sophie Malott and Marah Hartrick wound up with four.
Aliyah Christensen dished out 15 assists in the win. Elly Manning had 12 assists. Kyra Linkin finished the night with 16 digs, and Emma Nye ended up with 11. Wilka's three blocks paced the team.
The Tigers moved to 20-7 in their quarterfinal win. On the other side of New London's half of the bracket, Melcher-Dallas (23-2) won a thrilling five-set game at Lamoni, winning 25-16, 24-26, 25-18, 15-25, 16-14.
The Tigers and Saints will show down on Monday at Ottumwa's Evans Middle School at 7 p.m. While those two teams are playing in Ottumwa, Southeast Warren (24-0) will play Southwest Valley (15-13) at Southeast Warren High School. The winners of those games will face off at Evans Middle School on Wednesday with a state tournament spot on the line.
