DANVILLE — The last time the New London and Danville boys met on the basketball court, a thrilling Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division clash ended in a 1-point game, but that wasn’t the case on Tuesday night.
After falling 64-63 at home against the Bears earlier this season, New London fell short after an ice cold second half left the Tigers in defeat, 57-23.
New London’s London Franklin and Brendan Richey helped the Tigers keep up in the first half. Danville led 8-6 after one quarter, and it was tight throughout the second until the Bears caught fire in the final few minutes of the second period.
Danville led New London 22-14 at halftime, still a relatively close game, but the Bears controlled the final two quarters.
Danville won the third quarter 12-4, and the fourth quarter 23-5, to run away with the victory.
New London was led by Franklin, who scored 11 points on the night. Richey finished with six. Memphis Watson had five, and Carter Benjamin scored one.
It was Danville’s second win in a row in the rivalry. New London had previously beaten the Bears six years in a row.
The Tigers fell to 3-8 overall and 2-7 in conference play with the loss.
