New London now has two different boys sports teams in the state wide rankings. The wrestling team started the season in the Top 10 of Class 1A and dropped, but remains ranked.
The basketball team started the season outside the Top 10 and clawed its way into the 10th spot of Class 1A when the Associated Press released its rankings Monday.
Other Southeast Iowa Super Conference members were mentioned but none received enough votes to crack the elite 10.
Fellow South Division member West Burlington got three votes in 2A, but it has two losses, one to New London. Another South team, Danville, received two votes in 1A. North Division member Wapello is unbeaten but only got three votes in 1A.
South Iowa Cedar League member Keota remained where it was last week although it did not get as many votes. It is 11th in 1A with 15 points after having 17 last week. New London has 22 after getting 10 last week when Danville had 11.
Other SICL teams were Montezuma with eight points and North Mahaska with six.
Washington Demon opponent Pella started the year tied for fifth, moved up to fourth and is now third with two first-place votes.
River Valley Conference team Monticello stayed seventh in Class 3A but Camanche fell from No. 3 to No. 5 after a loss to Solon, which boosted the Spartans into the No. 10 spot in 3A. The RVC's West Branch received votes in 2A.
