Tigers continue to tumble

NEW LONDON - The New London boys basketball team lost its third game in a row on Tuesday night after winning its first five. Notre Dame stormed back in the second half to beat the Tiger boys 75-71. The New London girls fell 60-41.
The Tiger boys started out strong, leading 21-9 after one quarter and 36-29 at halftime, but the Nikes responded with a monster third quarter.
Notre Dame put up 27 points in the third quarter to steal the lead, at 56-51, heading into the final eight minutes. The Tigers couldn't rally in the fourth, and New London dropped to 5-3 on the season.
Blaise Porter scored 25 points in the Tiger boys' loss. Kade Benjamin had 19 before fouling out of the ballgame.
Devin Swanson and Camden Kasel scored 10 poitns each for the Tigers. Kooper Schulte had five, and Toren Riley scored two.
The New London girls had trouble scoring in the first half. Notre Dame led 11-4 after the first quarter and 36-11 at halftime.
New London won the second half, outscoring the Nikes 30-24, but the damage had already been done.
Marah Hartrick scored 17 points in the loss. Ashlyn McSorley had 10. Keaura Williams scored six. Natalie Burden and Sophie Malott finished with four apiece.
The New London boys are now 5-3 overall and 5-2 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division. The girls are 2-9 on the year, and 1-7 in the SEISC South.
Both New London teams will travel to Holy Trinity on Friday night.
