NEW LONDON - The third-ranked New London boys' basketball team has now played 16 games in the 2018-19 season, and they've turned them into 16 wins.
The Tigers completed the season sweep of West Burlington. After beating the Falcons 68-53 on the road earlier this season, the Tigers blasted the Falcons by 20 points 55-35, on Thursday night, despite the continued absence of injured wing Isaac McSorley.
The Tigers were led by a 17-point performance by Mason Porter. Keontae Luckett added 11 points to give the Tigers two double-digit scorers, and both Tyler Henecke and Grant Swanson scored nine points.
That sets the Tigers up for the SEISC championship tonight (Friday) at Iowa Wesleyan. The unbeaten New London squad will take on Pekin, who has just two losses this season.
New London defeated Pekin 56-42 at Pekin earlier this season. Porter led the way with 17 points in that win as well, and Luckett had 15 points and six assists.
Since their loss to New London, Pekin has won the last 10 games. The Panthers are led by senior Cameron Millikin (16.3 points per game) and Brady Millikin (10.1 points per game).
The Tigers and Panthers will meet at approximately 7:30 p.m. The two second-place teams, Notre Dame and Mediapolis, will play at 6 p.m.
