NEW LONDON ? The New London girls? basketball team picked up its third win of the season last night when it defeated Harmony, 34-30, in a conference matchup. The boys? team dropped their game to Harmony by a score of 81-39.
The Tiger girls started the night with seven points on the board, ending the first quarter down by one. They built a lead from there, adding nine points in the second quarter while holding the Rockets to five points, and taking a 28-22 lead by the end of the third quarter.
Both teams went cold in the final quarter, scoring only six points each, but it was enough for the Tigers to hang on for the win.
Addie Lounsbury led the New London scorers with 14 points, and she also grabbed 10 rebounds. Bria Mears added seven points to the Tiger total. Charley Lorber was the top rebounder with 15 boards. Sarah Holtkamp had three steals during the game. Caitlin Rice dished four assists.
In the boys? game, the Tigers fell behind from the beginning when the Rockets put up 26 points in the first quarter. New London never could catch up.
Matayo Christianer scored 10 points in the contest. Josh Francis added eight and Tristan Kadel chipped in seven. Christianer also pulled down a team-high seven boards.
The Tigers play again on Friday, Jan. 13, when they host Maharishi, starting with the girls? game at 6 p.m.
