Tigers roll in home tourney

NEW LONDON - Four Southeast Iowa Super Conference squads met in New London on Saturday morning for the Tigers' annual tournament. No. 4 (1A) New London coasted to a tournament victory, sweeping Danville, Highland and Pekin. The Panthers finished second, going 2-1, and the Huskies finished 0-3.
New London never lost a set in their three games. The Tigers beat Danville, 21-5, 21-12, then took down Highland, 21-8, 21-11, and finally defeated Pekin, 21-8 and 21-13.
Over New London's three games, Sofie Reighard finished with 15 kills, including nine against Highland alone. Keaura Williams and Paris Wilka each finished the night with 13 kills.
Aaliyah Christensen dished out 42 of New London's 45 assists in their three wins, and also finished the day with 17 digs. Natalie Burden ended the tournament with 18 digs to lead the team. Marah Hartrick had 15, and Kyra Linkin finished with 14.
Christensen and Emma Nye each had six aces for New London to lead the servers.
Despite falling to New London, Pekin had a nice day. The Panthers picked up their first two wins of the season, knocking off Highland 21-16 and 21-12, and sneaking past Danville 19-21, 21-8, 15-10.
The Panthers were led by Allison Bainbridge, who had seven kills against Highland and six against Danville. She also had one kill against New London.
Erike Coleman had eight assists in Pekin's win over Highland and two in the Panthers' victory against Danville. Coleman also led the team in digs against Highland, taylling eight.
Clair Roth led Pekin ind igs when the Panthers knocked off Danville, collecting seven. Bainbridge had nine against New London.
Highland didn't win a match at the tournament but did play in one of the most competitive games of the day. The Huskies took Danville to three sets before losing 14-21, 21-18, 15-13. Highland's stats from the tournament were not available as of presstime.
Pekin's next game is tonight (Tuesday) at home against Sigourney. New London will be back in action on Thursday night at Central Lee, and Highland won't play until Sept. 8 when they hit the road to face Mediapolis.
