Tigers run at SLIAC championship

LITCHFIELD, Ill. - The Iowa Wesleyan cross-country teams competed in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championshipson Saturday, Oct. 27. The women's team placed sixth overall, while the men's team placed fifth.
The winning individual time for the women was 23:01.85 and the men's time was 25:55.54. Webster University took the women's team title, while Greenville University won the men's championship.
The women's team was led by Sierra Howardson She finished the 6k race in a time of 23:55.86, which was her second-fastest time this season. Howardson placed seventh individually and gave the Tigers seven points.
Allison Morris had the second-fastest time for the women, finishing with a final time of 27:31.50. Maggie Thomure rounded out the top three for IW with a final time of 35:46.36. Morris and Thomure also ran their second-best times of the season.
Iowa Wesleyan recorded a team time of 2:58:44.60 with an average of 35:44.92. They finished with a total of 143 points.
On the men's side, the Tigers finished the day with team time of 2:46:43.33 for an average of 33:20.69. They recorded 147 points at the end of the race to jump two spots from where they were picked to finish at the start of the season.
Iowa Wesleyan was led by Joel Amor, who placed 23rd individually with a time of 25:55.80. Ryan Hutchinson placed in the top 30 in his first event this season. Hutchinson ran a personal best 29:49.62 which put him in 27th at the end of the day. Matt Klundt crossed the line with a time of 32:26.80 to round out the top three runners for the Tigers. Amor's and Klundt's times were their second-fastest times this season.
The All-Conference honors were awarded at yesterday's championships as well. Iowa Wesleyan had two individuals earn conference recognition. Sierra Howardson was named to the First Team All-Conference list for her seventh-place finish. Howardson was also named to the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship team. Matt Klundt earned SLIAC All-Sportsmanship honors for Iowa Wesleyan on the men's side.
The Tigers will wrap up their season with the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday, Nov. 10 in Colfax, Wis.
