Tigers stifle WPU for fourth straight win

Anna Jones scored 28 points and Iowa Wesleyan College held William Penn University to 15.7 percent shooting for the game in a 57-27 win Saturday afternoon in a Midwest Collegiate Conference game at Ruble Arena.
Jones single-handedly outscored the Lady Statesmen, pouring in 28 points and adding nine rebounds and seven steals as the Tigers won their fourth straight game. IWC has now reached the .500 mark for the first time all season, improving to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in the MCC.
Wesleyan smothered Penn defensively, allowing just eight made field goals in the entire game. The Lady Statesmen (4-12 overall, 2-3 MCC) shot 8-for-51 from the floor, including 1-for-20 from three-point range. William Penn also committed 28 turnovers and scored just six points in the final 15:23 of the game.
The Tigers never trailed in the game and held the Lady Statesmen scoreless for the game?s first 8:25, running out to an early 12-0 lead. IWC led 28-14 at halftime and added another 16-0 run in the second half, leading by as many as 32 points.
Jones was the only Wesleyan player to score in double figures, while Ashley Kruse and Adilene Villalobos both added seven points. Danielle Des Jardins tied Jones for rebounding honors with nine and Michelle Price added eight boards. Kruse also had five steals as the Tigers as a team recorded 18 steals in the game. IWC shot 34.3 percent for the contest (18 of 53) and also won the rebounding battle by a 46-37 margin.
IWC will be home again Wednesday when it faces Clarke University at 5:30 p.m. at Ruble Arena.
