Tough loss for Trojans at home

Opportunities were plentiful but the Trojan boys' soccer team failed to convert enough of them as they were 'upset” by visiting Mt. Pleasant Monday night at the Dexter Soccer Complex, 4-3.
'We should have been up 3-0 at the half, but we didn't show up,” said head coach Felisto Guezimane after the conference opening loss. 'There was a lot of laziness on our part and no concentration and that's not the way we should play.”
'We went in and had some good ball movement in the first half,” explained Juan Rojo. 'but we didn't finish our chances and those were really crucial because in the second half we were down 4-2 and we came out strong but we were still in the gutter and even though we got it to 4-3, we ran out of time and it cost us the game.”
Quick strike
The Panthers scored in the opening minute when senior Jayden Vongsavath was assisted by junior Noel Lopez. With 32:07 left in first half, senior Nathan Rauenbuehler was assisted by sophomore Avery Scandridge. With 13:30 left on the clock, Vongsavath scored again with an assist from Rauenbuehler and Kade Warner scored the fourth goal for the Panthers after getting an assist from Lopez.
Fairfield scored their first goal by Juan Rojo who had a 'Great shot and there was no stopping it, it was beautiful,” said Guezimane.
Leone Gichure scored on a cross from Isaac Rosales from the right side for the second Trojan goal.
'I got a good touch on it and I had the open shot,” described Gichure.
Down 4-2 at the half, sophomore Dagan Burnett got the third score on free kick from 20 yards out.
'I was just looking for an opening in the goal and tried to place it there,” said the soft-spoken sophomore.
Landen Schafer beat the goalie in the final two minutes and missed an open net shot over the crossbar.
*Fairfield was missing Xavier Kapijimpanga, Adrian Restrepo and Ethan Nebinger to grades and Kobe Navesse to a concussion. All four are starters.
'We have to play better in the first half and put those chances away so we don't have to play from behind,” added Rojo.
'We did well with possession and passing and through balls in the first half, but our defense lacked all over the field and they had some open shots and rebounds and in the second half they parked the bus and we couldn't get it back even,” admitted Gichure who concluded with, 'We just need to have consistency throughout the whole game and just do what we do and get the dub.”
Coaches corner
'Two referees just doesn't work,” said the frustrated coach who kept it cool throughout the contentious contest. 'They admitted after the game that they needed a third ref. 'It's a big game and with just two, you miss a lot of things, but it is what it is.”
