MT. PLEASANT — The Fort Madison softball team has had Mt. Pleasant’s number of the last few years, and that is a trend that kept up on Tuesday night.
The Bloodhounds shut the Panthers down in two straight games, as Mt. Pleasant fell 12-0 in a three-inning Game 1 and 11-1 in a five-inning Game 2.
“I don’t think we played as well as we did on Saturday,” said head coach Mike Beason. “They played really well, and we didn’t meet their intensity.”
The Panthers struggled to hit the ball in Game 1, but Ella McNamee was able to go 1-for-1 to stop a potential no-hitter.
In the circle, Madison Helling was tagged with the loss, giving up nine runs (three earned) on five hits and three walks.
Mt. Pleasant hit the ball better in Game 2. Savana Walls scored the only Panther run, coming around to score on a wild pitch after a leadoff double. Bethany Drury, Saige Burchett and Kynlee White each had a base hit.
McNamee threw most of the game for Mt. Pleasant. She gave up 10 runs (four earned) on six hits and eight walks.
“Fort Madison played very well,” Beason said. “They hit the ball and they pitched well. Story of the game.”
Mt. Pleasant fell to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play with the losses.
