Track season officially begins
Area athletes kick start indoor season in Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS — The 2024 indoor track season is officially underway. A quartet of area schools competed at the Dickinson Relays at Northern Iowa University on Monday and Tuesday, as Washington, Mt. Pleasant, Columbus and Winfield-Mount Union all sent athletes to the first indoor meet of the year.
The Dickinson Relays featured teams from all four classes. Union area athletes took home a handful of Top-30 finishes.
The top finish for any Union area athlete went to Mt. Pleasant’s Avin Truong in the boys’ long jump competition. Truong jumped 6.24 meters for 10th place.
Columbus’ Lamar Ceant also competed in the boys’ long jump competition. He lept 5.97 meters, for 29th.
Mt. Pleasant also picked up a Top-20 field performance in the shot put. Harmon Ensminger threw the shot put 45-00.75 meters, just edging Russel Coil of Columbus, who threw 44-11.50.
Columbus’ Kaden Amigon had two Top-30 finishes on the track. Amigon took 16th in the 200-meter dash, crossing in 23.70 seconds, and 26th in the 60-meter dash, in 7.22 seconds.
On the girls’ side, both Mt. Pleasant and Washington had Top-15 finishes individually. For the Panthers, Ella Ensminger finished 13th in the shot put, throwing it 35-02.25, and Washington’s Jaedyn Moore took 13th in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 27.69 seconds.
Mt. Pleasant’s 4X200 team of Kiyah Sanders, Bailey Jalas, Courtney Raub and Kynlee White finished 14th, in 1:53.6.
Washington’s 4X800 squad took 15th. The quartet of Kendall Hinrichsen, Abigail Kleese, Emma Horak and Taylor Bartholomew crossed in 10:55.52, a few sports ahead of Mt. Pleasant’s Aliya Graber, Alexa Wagner, Pru Callaway and Monroe James, who finished 28th, in 11:23.93.
Washington’s Moore took 24th in the long jump, finishing in 4.56 seconds. Iris Dahl picked up a 25th-place finish in the 800, crossing in 2:25.61, and a 27th-place finish in the 400-meter dash, crossing in 1:05.60.
Mt. Pleasant had a Top-25 finish in the 4X400-meter relay. The Panther quartet of Natalie Freeman, White, Wagner and Raub finished in 4:37.25.
