Track season underway at Mapleleaf

Mapleleaf Athletic Complex saw its first high school track meet of the spring on Thursday night as the Mt. Pleasant boys' and girls' track and field teams opened up their home schedule. The Panthers collected eight wins on the night, five from the boys' team and three from the girls.
The boys' shuttle hurdle team picked up a victory. The team of Zach Beason, Tate Shull, Konnor Peterson and Chase Lamm crossed the tape in 1:01.18. Cody Mertens picked up another win for the Panthers on the track, winning the 1600 in 4:40.17.
The Panther boys won three field events on the night. Sam Beatty took the high jump with a leap of 6-04. Rylan Seberg took the long jump with a 21-11.25, and Riley McQuiggin won the shot put with a throw of 47-08.
The girls won two events in the field. The shuttle hurdle team of Maddie Williamson, Kenna Lamm, Serenity Keomanivong and Karsyn Lamm took the gold in 1:11.78. Maggie Cristoforo dominated the 400-meter hurdles, winning in 1:08.03.
Lexie Magnani represented the Panthers well in the field events. She won the shot put in 40-09.
Mt. Pleasant picked up five second-place finishes on the night, three of which went to the boys.. The distance medley team of Khang Truong, Lamm, Seberg and Jacob Sukerjurgen took second in 3:40.44. Chase Lamm took second in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.60 seconds. The 4X400 team of Shull, Beatty, Avante Henley and Stukerjurgen took the silver in 3:36.17.
Karsyn took second in the 100-meter hurdles for the girls' team. Abby Ryon picked up a second-place finish in the 1500, crossing in 4:58.37.
The Panther girls had five third-place finishes. The sprint medley team of Karsyn, Kenna, Cristoforo and Avery Sutter finished in 1:59.18. The distance medley team of Williamson, Kendall Dascher, Maggie Jennings and Ryyon was third in 4:30.32. Cristoforo was second in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 4:30.32. The 4X200 team of Dascher, Lamm, Vantiger and Sutter took the bronze in 1:45.39, and Alyssa Striegel was third in the discus throw, finishing in 106-02.
The boys' team had three third-place finishes. Mertens was third in the 3200, crossing in 10:18.48. Brody Bender took bronze in the 800, in 2:04.64. Beason placed third in the discus throw with a hurl of 139-09.
The Mt. Pleasant boys will be back on the track on Tuesday, April 2, when the team travels to Mediapolis. The girls and boys will both be in Washington on Thursday, April 4.
