Trap team racks up awards in Ft. Madison
FT. MADISON ? The Mt. Pleasant trapshooting team attended the Ft. Madison Invitational at Tri-State Gun Club on Thursday, April 19.
Mt. Pleasant fielded five, five-member squads, consisting of 23 boys and two girls, and won seven out of nine trophies and two out of four medals.

FT. MADISON ? The Mt. Pleasant trapshooting team attended the Ft. Madison Invitational at Tri-State Gun Club on Thursday, April 19.
Mt. Pleasant fielded five, five-member squads, consisting of 23 boys and two girls, and won seven out of nine trophies and two out of four medals.
This was a dual qualified shoot ? each participant?s score was counted for both the SCTP (Scholastic Clay Target Program) division and for the Iowa High School division. In SCTP, there are two classes; junior varsity (JV), for all first year shooters, and varsity. In the Iowa High School Division all athletes shoot the same class.
The Panthers took home three trophies in the SCTP JV event.
Squad one placed first with a score of 209 (out of 250). Squad members were Nick Ballou, Justin Doscher, Alex Peterson, Cody Bruggemeyer and Wade Patterson.
Squad five placed second with a score of 175. Squad members were Alex Lamphier, Zach Detrick, Skylar Crossett, Caleb Davis and Cory Brown.
Squad four placed third with a scored of 171. Squad members included Keano Rhum, Emma Ludwig, Ashley Hummel, Jordan Walter and Levi Morris.
In the SCTP varsity event, Mt. Pleasant claimed two trophies.
Squad two took second with a score of 198. Squad members were JD Klopfenstein, Philip Yaley, Daniel Yaley, Jerrat Norton and Sam Kuckes.
Squad three placed third with a score of 171. Squad members were Justin Woods, Trevor Staats, Levi Detrick, Jayton Phillips and Robbie Rich.
In the Iowa High School Event, the Panthers won two trophies: Squad two placed second and Squad three placed third.
In the individual event, Mt. Pleasant claimed two medals.
JD Klopfenstein placed first with a score of 47 out of 50, and Alex Peterson took third with a score of 46 after losing a tiebreaker round to the second-place winner, Ft. Madison?s Joe Engle.
Ludwig was the high scorer for the girls with a 38.
A number of the Panthers scored their personal best in the event as well.
