FORT MADISON — The Fairfield baseball team earned a Southeast Conference win on Tuesday night. The Trojans used a couple of experienced arms to win Game 1 of a doubleheader in Fort Madison 4-2, before dropping Game 2, 8-3.
The duo of Dain Burkhart and Tallon Bates had the Bloodhounds rattled in Game 1. Fort Madison was held to just three hits all game, scoring two earned against Burkhart.
Not only did Bates threw three and 3.2 no-hit inning, but he got it done at the plate as well. He went 2-for-3 with a solo home run to help lead the team.
Bukart was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Trojans. Luke Konczal knocked in a run as well.
The game was tied 2-2 going into the final inning. A leadoff walk drawn by Aidan Kreuter and an error off the bat of Cason Miller turned into a pair of Trojan runs in the top of the seventh.
Fairfield wasn’t as fortunate in Game 2. The Bloodhounds scored seven runs in the first two innings and the Trojans could never recover.
Aiden Westercamp went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Game. Miller went 1-for-2 with an RBI as well. Kreuter took the loss on the mound.
Fairfield had won its first six games before the second game. The Trojans (6-1, 1-1) play Chariton on Wednesday before playing the Bloodhounds at home on Thursday.
