FAIRFIELD — Three games in two days took place at Fairfield Middle School, and the Trojan orange was able to celebrate after every single one.
The Fairfield baseball team beat Burlington twice on Monday in Southeast Conference play, taking Game 1 11-1 before storming back for a 12-9 win in Game 2. One night later, the Trojans knocked off Williamsburg 7-5.
It was all Fairfield in Game 1 against Burlington. The Trojans took a 4-0 lead into the fifth inning, where the team would tack on six runs. Aidan Westercamp hit a walk-off double for the 10-run rule in the bottom of the sixth.
Aidan Krueter led the way for the Trojans, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the opener. Dain Burkhart got the win on the mound, giving up just one earned run over six frames.
Westercamp went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in the win. Voss Richardson knocked in two. Cason Miller had two hits and an RBI, and both Tallon Bates and Caden Allison knocked in one run.
The Trojans were down 8-1 after two innings of Game 2, but the team came clawing back little bit little. Fairfield scored one in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth to tie it at 8-8, and then busted it open with a four-run sixth.
“We kept chipping when we were down big, and then we got it to a three-run deficit,” said Fairfield head coach Josh Allison. “Then we just kind of said, 'Hey, this could happen.’”
The Trojans threw Bates for the first three innings before bringing Kreuter in for four innings of relief. He would give up just one earned run, earning himself the win on the mound.
“Honestly, it took a lot of energy, and a lot of coming together as a team,” said Krueter. “I think that's the best we've come together as a team all year.”
Kreuter knocked in two runs in Game 2, as did Miller and Caden Allison. Burkhart, Richardson and Landon Nodurft all knocked in one.
Fairfield came back from a 4-2 deficit to win Tuesday night’s game against Williamsburg. The Trojans used 5.1 strong innings from Richardson and 1-2 relief innings from Miller to slow down the Raier offense.
Offensively, Burkhart, Westercamp and Kreuter all had two RBIs. Miller knocked in one. Kreuter and Luke Konczal each had a double for the team’s only two extra-base hits.
Fairfield baseball is now 10-2 in league play and 4-1 in the conference. The Trojans will play at Burlington (4-4, 2-3) on Thursday night.
