? Saturday?s conference tournament coming to Fairfield.
WASHINGTON, Iowa ? The Fairfield boys? bowling team finished off a season sweep of conference rival Washington to conclude the regular season Saturday.
The Fairfield boys won their sixth match of the season with a 2706-2379 drubbing while the Fairfield girls dropped another close contest, a 2107-2052 loss to the Demons.
The boys? team (6-3) opened up a 182-pin lead after round one and bowled a huge round two score of 923 to secure the win.
?I was pleased with the scores of our players,? said Fairfield head coach Lisa Greenig. ?Several stepped up and bowled well above their averages.?
Stian Hoff was one of four Trojans to bowl better than his personal average, rolling games of 200 and 215 to lead Fairfield in round one. Fairfield freshman Cody Craff wasn?t far behind with a 382 series and Ben Hull bowled a 349. Gabe Hull (333) and Jake Adam (304) also scored.
The boys combined for a 75 percent marking percentage.
In the varsity girls competition, Fairfield (2-7) had the win within its sights, trailing 1405-1383 after round one. The Trojans cut into the deficit with games of 136 and 162 in the baker round, but the Demons knocked down 72 more pins than Fairfield in the final two games of baker competition to walk away with the victory.
Shannan Baker paced Fairfield from the lead-off spot, knocking down 312 pins in the series. Megan Harris rolled a series score of 288, and Kristen Terrell rolled a team-high game of 172 for a 283 series score.
With senior Kaylen Marlay out of the lineup due to a prior engagement, Jami Nelson was given her first chance at varsity competition. The Trojan freshman looked right at home by bowling a 253 series and scoring for the varsity team. Kayla Miller (247) also scored for the Trojans.
Overall, the girls marked at a 50 percent rate and several times were able to score two or more strikes in a row.
?Half of our varsity squad are new bowlers, and I?m pleased with their progress this year,? added Greenig.
In JV action, Washington was unable to field a boys? team and Fairfield only had two bowlers available for the girls. For the boys, Corey Haynes and Tyler Krumboltz bowled series scores of 526 and 473, respectively. Jake Kessel finished with 446. Tracy Andermann bowled a 204 series and Hannah Sobaski turned in a 196.
Fairfield now gets set to host the Southeast Conference tournament Saturday at Flamingo Lanes. Keokuk, Mount Pleasant and Washington will be competing in the varsity-only competition set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
