The Fairfield boys? soccer team was as strong offensively as it was defensively Thursday, shutting down Fort Madison in a 5-0 victory at Trojan Stadium.
?It was good to see us scoring goals again,? said Fairfield head coach Felisto Guezimane. ?Hopefully we can carry on from here.?
Fairfield senior Kendall Mickels and junior Roan Bachar served as major remedies for the team?s recent scoring troubles, netting two goals apiece. Trojan senior Kyle Thomas tacked on a fifth goal plus three assists, and sophomore Austin Lauderman recorded one assist.
Fairfield senior goalie Aidan Bachar made five stops to keep the Bloodhounds quiet.
Guezimane saw his Trojans playing at a level he expects, but the head coach looks for more contributors when the postseason begins May 21.
?The team is playing well again, and we were able to get something to show for it,? the coach said. ?We?ll keep working and get everyone on the same page for the playoffs. I want to see more players stepping up.?
The JV squad also won, picking up a 3-1 victory. Fairfield?s Derek Robinson scored two goals and Adam Mueller netted one.
The Trojans wrap up the season at home against Washington next Thursday before opening up the first round of substate soccer.
Fairfield girls win big
The Fairfield girls? soccer team scored its most goals to date in an 8-1 drubbing of Columbus Junction at the Dexter Soccer Complex Thursday.
Trojan seniors Serena Ward and Taylor Neil once again led the way. Ward provided three goals and two assists and Neil tallied three goals to go with one assist. Claudia Sloat and Kayla Septer scored one goal apiece.
In JV action, Fairfield edged Columbus 1-0 with a goal from Tracy Andermann.
Next up for the Fairfield girls is a JV-varsity doubleheader today at Ottumwa.
